When Peter and Suzanne Williams purchased the 60-acre Victorian property in 1988, the vineyard, originally planted in 1982, was in a state of neglect. Peter had been looking for an existing vineyard with river frontage and an old bluestone house. That Redesdale Estate was little more than an hour from Melbourne was an attraction for pair, who each led busy professional lives in the city. The vineyard was managed by contract and the grapes were sold to a commercial wine label for blending. In 1999, the Williams' retained part of the grape crop and bottled this first vintage of Shiraz under the Redesdale Estate label. The next year a Cabernets wine was introduced from their Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. New French oak barriques were purchased to age the wine and a new winemaker -- Tobias Ansted of Balgownie Estate -- was engaged.

Redesdale Estate handpick their vines with care, the whole bunches entering the process in absolutely perfect condition. The economics of producing wine using machine harvesting, exposes the ripe grapes to damage and subsequent deterioration, prior to a controlled fermentation in the winery.
The wines are made from the grapes grown only on the estate, producing a true history of wine from the same vines, grown on the same soil, year after year. The new and one year old French barriques selected for the aging process in the winery, are consistent year to year.
An interesting history is emerging on the variations which only climate has dictated, starting with the first vintage bottled under the Redesdale Estate label in 1999, each year until now.
The wines are aged in the bottle for a minimum of 2 years prior to release, resulting in wine that shows great elegance and consistently gains top awards.

The Shiraz, estate grown from mature vines, is incredibly voluptuous, rich and dense. The flavour takes in black cherry, plum, prune, blackberry, bitter chocolate and anise/spice. Redesdale Estate is well recognized for this style of Shiraz.
