When Whistling Eagle wines was established by Ian and Lynn Rathjen in 1995, viticulture and winemaking was reborn into the 4th generation Rathjen family. Ian and Lynn aspire to produce fruit that is grown in a sustainable environment and is a true reflection of the terrior along the Mt William fault.

Whistling Eagle is nestled amidst the rolling hills above the township of Colbinabbin, approximately 35km north of the township Heathcote. The vibrant red ancient Cambrian soils and the east facing slopes are ideal for growing grapes and creating exceptional wine.
At Whistling Eagle we have a minimalist approach to winemaking, using traditional methods. The fruit is hand selected, fermented in small batches then pressed out using a traditional basket press. Then barrelled in French and American oak to complement and balance the complexity of the wine.
Whistling Eagle’s iconic ‘Eagles Blood Shiraz’ will present you with flavours of earthly dark berries, mocha and hints of cloves, pepper and mint. Then finish with rich velvety tannins.
Ian and Lynn Rathgen welcome you to visit our winery by appointment and taste the unique wines we have to offer.
Whistling Eagle vineyard is perched on the greenstone range above the township of Colbinabbin. It is approximately 30 minutes drive from Heathcote and 2 hours from the Melbourne CBD.
