Peregrine Ridge focuses on high quality, elegant Shiraz styles which emphasise the Mt Camel terroir. The wines are produced solely from estate grown fruit and handcrafted on site, using traditional techniques.

The vineyard was established in 2001 by Graeme Quigley and Sue Kerrison. An east facing slope, high on the Mt Camel range was chosen for the vineyard and Shiraz vines were planted in the ancient, deep, red Cambrian soil for which the Mt Camel Range is renowned.
Our philosophy is to produce elegant wines with finesse and power. James Halliday awarded our winery a four and a half star rating  in his 2009 Australian Wine Companion, which is his rating for “an excellent winery able to produce wines of high to very high quality, knocking on the door of a five-star rating.”
We aim to provide value for money at the top end of the quality spectrum of Australian red wines.
Peregrine Ridge wines are estate grown high on the Mt Camel Range on deep Cambrian soils that face the morning sun. Fruit integrity is assured by the watchful eye of local Peregrine Falcons.
The unique terroir of our vineyard site enables the fruit to ripen slowly over the growing season, with the higher altitude fruit ripening about four weeks later in the season.
The vines are pruned to yield small quantities of intensely flavoured fruit with our objective being to crop at only 1-1.5 tonnes per acre (2.5-3 tonnes per hectare).
Our vineyard has 4 different Shiraz clones planted, which adds to the complexity of our wines and contributes to our ability to produce 3 different Shiraz styles as follows:

Limited Release” Heathcote Shiraz
This wine is matured in French oak barrels for 17-23 months, depending on the vintage. We use a high percentage of new oak (40-80%) to produce this full bodied wine style. Typically the bouquet is of dark fruits and savoury oak and the palate is intense, with flavours of fresh, dark cherries and blackberries. The wine style is supported by silky tannins and has a long, soft, savoury finish.
The Limited Release is an elegant and perfectly balanced wine style which makes it exceptional drinking whilst young, with the structure to develop well into the future.
We suggest serving this wine with rare meats including game, beef and lamb, casseroles and marinated meats.

American Oak Blend” Heathcote Shiraz
This wine is matured in American oak barrels for 18-21 months, depending on the vintage. We use a high percentage of new oak (60-100%) to produce this full-bodied wine style which is an earlier drinking style than the Limited Release. The bouquet typically displays dark plums, vanilla and sweet spicy oak and the palate is of intense lifted dark cherries, rich sweet plum and spicy vanilla oak.
This wine style is well balanced and has a soft, lingering after palate which makes it exceptional drinking early and well suited to medium term cellaring.
We suggest serving this wine with rare meats including game, beef and lamb, roast pork, casseroles and marinated meats.

Winemaker’s Reserve” Sparkling Heathcote Shiraz
This wine is matured in new French oak barrels for 18-20 months depending on the vintage, and is then bottle fermented for a further 24-36 months, which enables the wine to fully develop its complex bottle fermentation characteristics.
This is a medium bodied wine style that is best served slightly chilled.
Typically the bouquet displays blackberries, dark cherries, and raspberries with hints of yeastiness and spice, and the palate is of intense lifted dark cherries, blackberries and sweet spicy oak.
This wine style is perfectly balanced and has a soft, lingering after palate which makes it exceptional drinking early and equally well suited to medium term cellaring.
This is a wine to celebrate special occasions. We suggest serving this wine with roast turkey, ham, duck, game meats and pre-dinner treats including terrines and pates.
