Heathcote Showgrounds will be transferred into a hub to celebrate the region’s vital wine industry next week ahead of the local winegrowers’ association 16th annual wine and food festival.
Temporary marquees will be erected next Wednesday for more than 40 wineries who will showcase the Heathcote region’s famous product along with food producers and vendors who venture to the festival each year.
Festival sub-committee chairman Richie Condie said: “The 2017 Heathcote Wine and Food Festival on 7 and 8 October celebrates the passion of our winemakers and the fame of their premium and outstanding wines now being enjoyed around the world.
“Our Heathcote exciting region has been described by Wine Australia as the new jewel in the crown for wine in Victoria and potentially the best after a recent visit by WineHunters, a savvy team of wine writers with a fine nose and palate for quality wine.
“And our winemakers of the Heathcote region have achieved an even higher reputation over the past year with successes in major wine awards for fine, well-priced wines now ranked as the best in the world.
“Over the festival weekend visitors will experience new releases and highly-awarded wines available for tasting at more than 40 amazing wineries as the Heathcote Showgrounds provides the setting for a true celebration of exciting Heathcote Wines – the flagship shiraz, engaging Mediterranean styles, Cabernet and blends and yes, refreshing whites and sparkling wines.”
The festival is expected to attract around 4000 people with many travelling on special buses from Melbourne and Bendigo.
Mr Condie said the region’s No 1 annual event brought visitors to the region to enjoy fine wines and meeting with local winemakers.
“It’s a celebration for our industry, our community and our region,” he said.
