More than 300 of the Victoria’s best wines will come under the scrutiny of leading industry judges when the 2018 Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show gets underway tomorrow - Thursday 2 August.
Judges will spend the next two days assessing wines made from grapes grown in the region and awarding medals and trophies to outstanding wines.
The entries, a record for the show now in its sixth year, have come from local vineyards and wineries across Australia who use Heathcote-grown fruit in their wines and will be considered for medals and major trophies. The major trophy, the Heathcote Grand Terroir, assesses wines from a from a single winery over three vintages.
Last year, the Heathcote wine region took top prize at the Victorian Wine Show with the Burke and Wills 2015 Vat 1 shiraz being awarded the Premier’s Trophy
Burke and Wills represented Heathcote after being named the region’s top wine at the 2017 Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show in August where it won four trophies – Best Young Shiraz, Best Single Vineyard Wine, Best Heathcote Produced Wine and, ultimately, The Tonnellerie Saint Martin Trophy for Best Shiraz.
Judging takes place at the Heathcote RSL Hall with trophies announced at a Showcase of the Region dinner on Saturday.
