Situated on the northern banks of Lake Eppalock, ECK Wines was borne out of love to create and wanting life to be "of the land".
After growing up in the leafy streets of inner eastern Melbourne and working as a Collins Street Lawyer for 5 years, Emily (now owner and winemaker) yearned to return to what she loved - making and creating and then sharing those creations with friends and family. After moving to the Macedon Ranges in 2016, the idea of making a living from the land started to form.
Come 2019, Emily took her last V-Line train into Melbourne and worked as Assistant Winemaker at Hanging Rock Winery. At that time, Emily and her husband Tom had taken over the small block of Shiraz vines in Central Heathcote (formally known as “Armstead Estate). They farm this site organically, whilst also working as a négociant producer, sourcing fruit from half a dozen sites within the Heathcote and Macedon Ranges regions.
ECK Wines was launched in late 2019 and currently, there are two ranges: the Core Range and Appellation Range. The core wines aim to capture history, elegance, lineage and grace in a bottle. Each year, Emily seeks to bring a sense of balance to these wines, to improve quality, to let the wine speak of its expression of place and heritage. The appellation wines allow Emily space to creatively play with regionality, variety, technique and off-centre ideas, bringing excitement and energy to the bottle. These wines speak of Place, People and Play and maybe a little more “nouveau”, although not always the case.
Currently, the Cellar Door is open once per year for tastings, or by appointment.
